Paints and Coatings

Mica describes to the paint industry’s "4E" principle, that is ECONOMY, ENERGY, ECOLOGY, EFFICIENCY. On the basis of these four principles the paint product does structural changes and improves upon. Therefore, the search for raw materials and their processing equipment and process technology in line with the "4E" principle has become a common concern in the coatings industry. Flakey ultrafine mica powder is of great significance as an inorganic filler in the coatings. Its main application areas are building exterior paint, interior wall paint, powder coating, anti-corrosion coatings, high temperature coatings, road marking paint, waterproof coating, fire coatings etc.
General heat range of silicone-based coatings is 200 - 400 degrees C. But if the appropriate amount of ultra-fine mica powder is used in the ingredients, Heat resistance can be obtained for more than 600 degrees C including resistance to radiation of the silicate coating. Another example is the domestic development of mica powder as the main component of the metal-type insulation coating, with provides good suspension and lubrication. The adhesion of the coating is strong and the service life is long, which improves the surface roughness of aluminum alloy casting.

Till now Industries commonly used asphalt, polyurethane, organic zinc-rich coatings for anti- corrosion performance. But the performance was poor. Therefore, the development of good anti-corrosion performance, satisfied with the performance of the environment and no pollution of the functional coating was imperative. This is where Mica Powder comes in.
In the extensive use of aluminum paint, the film starts aging and began to crack in a year in the general use of floating aluminum paint alone for the protection and anti-shield properties, such as tank surface paint, but with added Mica Powder, the film can be maintained for 5 years without any change. Also Mica powder costs much lesser than the aluminum powder. Some manufacturers use mica powder for its chemical stability, strong adhesion, acid and alkali resistance and excellent weather resistance characteristics.

With the deepening and improvement in the production of architectural coatings and rise of new opportunities like the development of architectural coatings in the direction of high-grade latex paint, requirements of this type of coating is scrubbing, rheology, brush and so on.  Interior paint must also be developed to be healthy. The development direction of exterior paint is it has to be anti-stain, self-emulsifying and non-polluting latex paint. The information shows that ultra-fine muscovite powder used in the preparation of the paint gives the paint superior performance, which no other inorganic filler can replace. This is due to the fact that the mica flakes tend to be parallel to the surface orientation of the film, forming an inert and flexible corrosion-resistant, anti-sunscreen protective layer. At the same time, it is possible to enhance the uniformity of stress in the coating by sealing the pores of the paint film with the tidal mica sheet, thereby enhancing the resistance to cracking, neat, acid and alkali resistance, surface smoothness and aesthetics. Experimental results show that Mica has a strong anti UV function and addition of Mica in architectural coatings improves the weather resistance quality of coatings significantly. It can also significantly improve the anti-corrosion performance.
